Bizarre boot issue

Here's a weird problem.

I just got a new hard drive and decided to use the onboard ATA133. I have a Gigabyte GA-8INXP by the way.

With the drive still connected to IDE1 I installed the Promised ATA133 drivers in WinXP SP2 then shut down and plugged the drive into the green IDE3 connector. Went into the Bios and enabled the controller and made it the boot choice.

Everything has been working fine for a day or so but now during boot up, the Bios shows the Promise controller detecting the drive then sometimes it goes right into Windows boot up but other times it goes back to the Bios screen and attempts to boot from CD. I have to go through this sequence three or four times before it no longer wants to boot from CD and starts normally.

The boot order set in the Bios is HDD-0 - Floppy - Disabled.

Any clues as to what's causing this intermittant problem?

Thanks,
Hugh

Make sure the hard drive is plugged into the Primary IDE controller slot and the CD rom plugged into the secondary.

The hard drive is plugged into IDE3 which is the primary connector for the on board ATA133 controller. The CD is plugged into IDE2 which is the secondary connector for the onboard ATA66/100 controller. These are 2 different controllers and the bios is set to boot from the ATA133 one. I don't even have the CD-ROM listed in the boot order sequence.
