BitTorrent servers

i just found this neat little d/l program thing. is their a site that has good servers for it?

I would like to see what other ATOT'ers think of BitTorrent. I found the speeds to be medicore, but the content was rare. If I was at home, I would supply links, but I'm at school.

It's a whole lot easier to get tv eps through BitTorrent.. that's why I love it. My speeds vary from 15KBps to 50KBps to 120KBps (rare)... depends who's on at the time and if you happen to catch their fat pipe. 😉 It has been said that if you use the upload capping torrent client, it may adversely affect your download speed. I haven't seen this to be true, but I don't care since my upload is capped at 20KBps anyway... I can't do anything about it.

Anyway, if you want to know about sites, the best source is to go to IRC and #tvtorrents on EFNET... since the sites change all the time.

I'm getting tonight's Friends episode as we speak... 😉

It depends entirely on when you try to get content, since it depends on simultaneous downloads. If you download a file soon after it's first released, you can easily get speeds in the 100 K/s range. I once pulled an MPEG of a full episode of Futurama in under ten minutes.

Correspondingly, it's important to leave your downloads active for a while (or even redownload files that you've already gotten -- it doesn't actually pull new data, but serves your existing one) after you're done to allow other people the same access.

ill check it out later today.

I suggested a few weeks ago that we start a private AT bit torrent tracker to distubite files between us, ex. demos, patches, hard to find files no one was interested......

I love it... I get DL speeds ranging from 50kB/s to ~360kB/s. I'd be willing to seed, but we aren't allowed to upload more than 1G per day. this site has lots of TV shows and stuff. I don't know if linking to torrentse is a good idea, since the banners and some of the content are not exactly moderator-friendly.

edit: search google for bittorrent experimental for a client that lets you limit upload speed. It affects your download speed adversely if you set it low, but at least it helps me avoid breaking the 1G/day limit.
