Bittorrent/Router/Connection Help

Well, to start off, I'm not the MOST knowledgeable person when it comes to ports and port forwarding and setting up everything router-wise, so feel free to assume I might not have tried a simple fix.

Here's my issue:

I have this modem: Link

Along with this router:Link

Me and my roommate share a 5M/512K Cable line. I'm connected to the router via ethernet cable, he is connected through the wireless. We're both running Vista (though his problem also occurred when I was still on XP).

Basically, if I have Bittorrent eunning, or have recently had it running, I cannot (or at the very least, only with extreme difficulty) log onto World of Warcraft. I also cannot connect to sites that require me to log in with a username (ie. online banking, gmail, facebook). If I do happen to be able to, it's very slow.

On a side note, I've ocasiannly been plagued with random disconnects from WoW even when bittorrent is not running.

My roommate does not have bittorrent installed, mainly only surfs the internet.

Any suggestions? Is this a router problem, configuration, ISP, anything?

Same issue as in this thread.

Like it or not, your router just can't cope with the number of connections you're trying to put through it. Either slash the number of connections your bittorrent client uses or buy a more powerful router.

Fair enough. After doing a little reading, that seems like it very well could be the problem with the main issue. I'll update this later on.

Thanks!

A simpler fix to try first is to make sure you aren't maxing out your upload. If you are saturating your outgoing then your incoming suffers greatly. Try setting your BitTorrent program to use something like 80-85% of your upload speeds.

The problem isn't so much that I can't get download speeds, it just seems to be hogging the resources and making it so I can't access certain things (WoW, login sites, etc) Most regular sites work fine, other downloads work fine.
