BitTorrent question

I was downloading something and a bunch of the files on my HD show as 14,649 which is the correct size. For whatever reason I can't open the files. Does BT download some kind of placeholder first and the file is really empty?

Yep, you can't open them until it is finished downloading.

you may also have to unzip or unrar the files after you finished downloading them.


I had to manually unrar a download once since the file extension was not known.

Not always true. In Linux, Totem will open partial mpegs or avi's in many cases, even BitTorrent downloads.

It depends on what you're downloading.

Mpegs and avi's will often work that way, mpegs moreso, but a rar file will never extract unless it's complete.
