bittorrent causing internet connection to die

I have a problem with bittorrent. Whenever I leave it on for a long period of time, my internet connection dies. To get it back, I cycle my cable modem. I'm using the linksys W45g with the satori firmware.

Anyone know how to fix this problem?

I've noticed the same thing using bittorent in general (not specifically utorrent). On atleast 3 completely different networks. Seems like I can't surf the net and use bittorrent at the same time no matter who's network or what computer i'm on.
 
I"m already limiting the upload speed. Before I had a cap on it, I wasn't able to do anything else either. But now I don't have a problem doing other things while utorrent is running. But it just dies after a while, as if the ISP just shuts down my IP.
 
Also, I've noticed that after using torrent for a while, and closing the app, my internet connection is a lot slower. I cycled my router and it didn't do anything. I cycled my cable modem, and it fixed it. So it seems like the ISP time warner, is throttling my IP because I was using torrent. Anyone else experienced this?
 
It could just be a crappy modem too, lots of SOHO hardware craps itself when presented with a decent amount of traffic.

winner. i did this, and have the same router. actually, every single router i had died under heavy BT usage... I had never noticed the # of connections limit, but would always do the speed limit. reducing the # of connectinos has helped significantly.

Depends on just how crappy your hardware is, you'll have to do some trial and error to figure out what the magical value should be.
 
WRT54G is also problematic with multiple connections. ISP's are cracking down hard on bit torrent use too so be warned.
 
This happens to me with the cable modem dropping at high speeds and many connections - my ISP recently upped my speed to 10 mbit and I don't think my modem can handle it. I have a DLINK DGL-4300 which seems to handle everything OK its just that my cable modem is a POS. I called my ISP and they are going to send a tech to check it out and see what he can do. They also know that I am using torrents - they don't care. Its legal to use bittorent.

This isn't the case with all ISP's. Local Cox.net customers are throttled if they use it a lot and there are several threads of people complaing of being kicked or throttled if they use it. It might be legal but about 90% of the activity is probably illegal.

 
Yes, I use Comcast and I have had this problem. It is either my cable modem or my ISP, so I will give them a call and figure it out.
 
I had this problem with a WRT54Gv4, however flashing the firmware to the HyperWRT Thibor completely eliminated the issue for me. It also let me give the BT machine a static DHCP lease and I can manually clear the upnp entries now, which caused a lot of hose ups in Azureus before when I went to forward the port to another IP.

I have the same router, down the revision. Where'd you learn about this firmware? I have never used a customized firmware for my router before.
