BitTorrent causes cable modem to stop working

Does anyone else have this problem? I am on InsightBB high speed cable modem in West Lafayette, IN. The internet works fine all the time except when I start up BitTorrent on anything and then it crashes. I know it's not my router, because I can still access my other computers after this happens. The cable company says that their signal strength is fine, so it is supposed to be me, but the cable modem works fine when I'm at home on Road Runner.

Anyone else have this problem, or have had this problem before and know a solution?

Thanks for any help.

Have you checked the BitTorrent FAQ? Specifically the part about port forwarding?

"I'm behind a firewall/NAT, can I use BitTorrent?

Yes, but you will get better performance if other peers can connect to you. By default, BitTorrent listens on port 6881, trying incrementially higher ports if it's unable to bind. It gives up after 6889 (the port range is configurable.) It's up to you to figure out how to poke a hole in your firewall/NAT."

That's not the problem. It works fine for a while, topping at u/l: 70kB/sec, d/k: 80kB/sec, then the entire modem locks up. It's really annoying.

you're probably getting flagged as an uploader or file-sharer (due to outbound traffic), and getting automatically cut off. I'm not sure what RoadRunner's policies are, but a number of cable companies are doing this now.

edit: or your local ISP. I'm a bit confused - are you doing this in more than one place?

Sorry, I'm just saying that it works when I'm on Road Runner. It doesn't work when I'm on InsightBB.

I can use kazaa though and nothing gets cut off. If they are cutting me off for being a file-sharer, then I will definately not be pleased and will look for other internet options, it is complete crap that I don't get what I pay for, 1.5MB/sec download, and 50kB/sec upload.
