BitTorrent and bandwidth problems

i have the latest version of BitTorrent and running it on a dsl line. the fastest d/l speeds i've gotten was 30kbps and 15kbps u/l. most of the time it's at 12kbps d/l and 5kbps u/l. even at these lowest speeds, when i use IE the pages takes forever to load up. sometimes IE would time out and report an error with dns and the sort. if i cancel the bittorrent d/l, everything returns to normal. is bittorrent that much of a bandwidth hog? when i d/l from a ftp or http site and it's running at 80kbps or more, pages in IE does take a bit longer to load but not as SLOW as when bittorrent is running. what gives?

It's probably because you're uploading when you're using BitTorrent. Uploading really kills my download bandwidth. Try BitTorrent++. I think you can control your upload bandwidth usage.

Most DSL lines are capped at 15K upload which is linked to your DL speed...so once you're sending out 15k you will have no download bandwidth. Try what igowerf said and cap your upload at 10k or something lower than your max. Just remember, download speed is tied to upload speed in Bit Torrent, but you should be able to max your DL or at least get a reasonable rate if your upload is 8-10KB/s on a DSL line.
