Bitlocker asking for key each reboot

Hi Everyone,

So a bit of a complex situation here.

I'm running a Surface Pro 4. I came home at 4AM from a red eye flight and left my Surface Pro 4 on the stairs outside of my apartment. Door keeper thought it was trash and and tried to reconfigure it (he couldn't explain exactly what as he's not tech literate). I've since got it back, but Bitlocker had engaged.

I was able to unlock bitlocker with my key, but the problem is even when I unlock it Bitlocker still asks me to renter the password every time I reboot.

I followed some online guides, which recommend suspending bitlocker, rebooting then enabling bitlocker. I was able to suspend bitlocker, but now when I try to enable it I get an error saying TPM could not be found on my computer. In addition, despite bitlocker being disabled, I still have a red lock symbol every time I first boot up the computer on the Surface screen.

How would you recommend I go about fixing this?

To reset the Surface Pro to the default UEFI settings, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Power button and the Volume Up button at same time while starting the Surface Pro.
  2. Set Trusted Platform Module (TPM) to enabled.
  3. Set Secure Boot Control to enabled.
  4. Press Install Default Secure Boot keys.
  5. Press Exit setup, and then save the changes.

I would run a decryption when you have time to let it sit and perhaps re-encrypt later. Do you have any new devices especially of data storage variety? I've seen WD Passport drives cause a prompt for the key every boot if they are left plugged into the USB.
