I would appreciate some feedback. I am changing Security programs. Bought Kaspersky and the new one is a big hassle on my wife's Lenovo notebook. It keeps asking for "allow" time after time for the same programs. I have tried contacting them and they only refer me to FAQ's which do not answer my question.

Anyway I am trying Bitdefender and would appreciate any feedback on its effectiveness. It's on my computer now so as far as slowdowns it doesn't seem bad except that downloading emails is a little slower on Thunderbird.

I run XP Pro w/sp2. Thanks in advance

Bitdefender has always been a very good AV ,it may not be the best but is normally in the top 5 sometimes top 3,you can't really go wrong with Bitdefender, just remember with any AV common sense goes a long way.

Hi,

I don`t know much about Bitdefender, it may be a good AV, cos I`m using NOD32 version 2.7, not the latest version, and I`m really content with it. I had no infection what so ever since installing it and I do surf a lot :). I`m not suggesting to use it but if you are not pleased with Bitdefender you could give it a try.

Cheers!

I suggest you try the trial version first. I tried it and didn't like it that much... Two main objections...
1. When I turned on my PC... I had to wait an extra 1min or so... It appears that bitdefender does some kind of scan at startup.... After the initial delay at startup, there are no additional delay.
2. Not user friendly in scheduling scans... I believe it defaults to 2am. It doesn't let you define your own scan schedule...

I also have Kaspersky... when you get "Allow" you can avoid this by selecting "create rule" and then hit "Allow". By doing this... it remembers the selection and doesn't prompt you again....

Also, with Kaspersky, you can schedule your scans when ever it's appropriate for you... I did have some issues with startup scan with Kaspesky too but overcame this by scheduling startup scan at night... when it doesn't interfere while I'm gaming or anything else...

Thanks everyone. Have been running Bitdefender for a week on 2 machines and like it's "unintrusiveness". Had been using ZoneAlarm and Kaspersky.
Spike99- Thanks for feedback. FYI I checked "create rule" 25 times and it kept asking every time I opened the same program. I used to be able to communicate w/tech support by email. But now they write back and refer you only to FAQ's which did not answer my problem. I'd write them back and tell them and I'd get back an automated email with same URL. I previously liked their software and service and would now say it is the worst I have tried.
As for Bitdefender - I opened the advanced settings (right click on icon) and turned off scan times. I can now go in and scan whenever I want. I have not noticed the slowdown on bootup

1landshark,

Yes, bitdefender was unintrusive except at bootup for me... I assume that it was doing some startup scan for me...

When checking "create rule", did you followup with checking "Allow" ? You need to first check "create rule" then "Allow".

Another way to avoid "Allow" popping up in Kaspersky is to add the program to "Trusted applications", this may help in avoiding these "Allows" popups. I never get any popups because I either added them to "Trusted applications" or created rules.

Kaspersky has live chat with tech support. Here is the link (much better than mail)

http://usa.kaspersky.com/suppo...-support-live-chat.php

I have a different experience... So far with K, i have no slowdowns or issues communicating with Live Chat and having any issues i have addressed.

For scan times... I prefer scheduled scans instead of manual scans.
