Bit Torrent

Is it known whether or not the RIAA has busted BT users yet? I know they can see ip's and such but I've yet to see mention of this type of file sharing in any of the news reports regarding recent busts. It seems to always mention Kazaa but that doesn't mean anything since I have a feeling most of the journalists reporting on the matter really don't know much about file sharing in general.

I've read several posts on other forums about people being contacted by their ISP's about illegal file sharing. Most of it has been from the MPAA though and not RIAA.

Not sure about law suits.

EDIT: these were BT users btw.

A couple weeks back I heard a rumor in a IRC channel that it's just a matter of time before sites such as suprnova will be forced to shut down permanantly. So, get while the gettin' is good.

BTW, it's not the bittorrent protocol itself that's illegal, it's the sharing of copywrited material via this bittorrent program. That's what will get them in hot water.

It'd be too bad, too, because SN and BT also distribute legal online videos and television caps. People argue that television caps are copyright infringement, but, then again, so is videotaping a show, technically.

There is nothing illegal about videotaping a show. See the fair copy use rullings of the 80's.

None that I know of.

edit; now that i remember, i have been contacted by certain US companies to remove licensed anime title torrents. ;(

Its only illegal if you sell it, give me a good $20 hour job and I'll glady stop wasting money on tons of hard drives and time on FTPs,Newgroups and DC++. What the RIAA/MPAA/Game Publishers need to do is put groups like Fairlight, Deviance, Razor911, Myth, AdVaNcE out in the cold without them there is no warez. Picking on little leechers will get them no where.

Well, you have sites like 3dgamers that use it legally.

Sorta off topic, how the hell does suprnova stay alive?

Hell, the only reason I ask is because I'd hate to get busted for sampling music. I don't listen to the radio and this is the only way I really have to sample a band that someone might mention to me.

Proof. I actually bought a cd today that I downloaded on Tuesday. I have no problem paying for a band whose music I enjoy. If I don't buy their music then that's 1 less record sale for a band that I'd like to see produce a 'next' album. My 1 could be the 1 that keeps the label from giving them the green light on album #2.

Think the movies are the biggest things watched on BT. Whatever you do, stay away from those...

The site is hosted primarily on non-US, non-UK servers, and a whole host of mirrors which change frequently. The RIAA and MPAA have absolutely no jurisdiction over most of them.

Not me, clips suck. I did that for one album though. I thought some of the clips were great but the whole song ended up sucking. Never again.
