My bit torrent isn't working! i just downloaded it and it is saying that i can't connect to the tracker. i have never worked with torrent before and am confused some one please help me

Better.

Sometimes the tracker's are down. You just have to wait until they come back. Also, check to make sure you have the right ports opened up. That will help with performance.

I was baffled for a while too. The thing is, you never really start up and connect to a master server once you've followed the directions to install BitTorrent. Leave it closed. Find and click on a .torrent link you find on the Web and if your browser gives you an option to Open/Save/etc, click "Open". BitTorrent will then start up and work its magic.

thanx for thie tip is that in the rules and i missed it? i tried to read the whole thing at once but am dislexic and i think a missed a part of them.

and i did that but at the magic part it tries to tell me that it can't connect to a tracker.

which ports does it use?

As a rule of thumb, any direct reference to downloading specific things are frowned upon. Asking for help in general with p2p stuff is usually permitted.

Edit: It uses ports 6881-6889. Read more in the faq.

hahahaha it is working!!!!!!! i guess the tracker is working. but as to the part that never existed in my first thread it eigther of the two of you that helped me are interested i am the sharing type of person.

edit: wait i retract that statement it is not working! i may have to abandon this idea.
as you can tell i have a short attention span

ok it has been awhile since i manually reset ports. how do i do it? lol wow i guess feeling stoopid every once in awhile is humbling.
but in a good way

In a Nutshell:

Bit Torrent is a p2p software that is a bit more advanced than the likes of your kazaa. it leavesa smaller footprint on your computer andinstead of manually browsing through searches there is a web page that tells you what is available on it. you then downlad a file that when activated will automatically conect you to the other people with the file and you will start downloading it.

BT is a bandwidth hog...

and lots of people will not share once they got the complete file.

I dislike those people.

Most of them like you, do not have good upload speed, and they need every bit of it to surf the internet. It is very cpu/hd intensive btw and leaving it on, pretty much render your computer useless while you are uploading.
bitto is not a really a p2p, your upload is only use to help speed up distributing the file which make thing a little faster for others, and much faster if your connection is really good like T1.
