me and my roommate use bit torrent pretty heavely but we have yet to find a setting where we both get decent performance.

my current settings are:
Ports 6881-6884 are routed to my PC
and ports 6884-6889 are routed to my roommates
this is the best setting I've found so far but I still get much more bandwidth than his. (ok the 120Kbs down we get I usually get 80-90 and he will get the rest).

are thier any settings so we can both get equal bandwidth?

Hi,

I don't think there are any "optimal" settings you can configure to make BT work faster. Depending on what your network set up is like and if you use QoS (Quality of Service) the bandwidth will vary by who you are connected to through BT. Since BT is a P2P service your download speed depends on several factors such as amount of users seeding, their upload speeds, and your LAN utilization. hmm I don't think i explained it clearly... I'm sure someone else knows more than I do, but if you need any more info just post it. =)

Ya, the bandwidth totally depends on the seeds and peers for your current download. The download speed will fluctuate a lot as well since bittorrent will get differene file pieces from different peers/seeds, and will not always use the same peer/seed. So you may be downloading from one set of peers/seeds, while your roommate is probably downloading from a totally different set of peers/seeds.

Try using Azureus as your bittorrent client software. http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ It has a lot of configuration options that may help optimize your download to upload ratio, and manage your downloads better.

This sounds like a bad idea. I think you would want to keep your workstation behind the NAT. You are just asking to be attacked sitting in the DMZ. If you are using a computer you don't care about just for file transfers, then sure. Otherwise, bad idea.

Instead of splitting your BT ports in half to each address, try giving both addresses the full range.

Make sure both connections are optimized. For example, check your TCP RWIN setting.

u could always try to limit ur upload speed. I have found that it bogs down ur download. So, try to limit it at 70% to 80% of ur total.
