I just downloaded Bit tornado and started downloading some files. What is the best website for downloading the torrent files?? Do I upload to people only when I am downloading the same clip? Or can people download any files I have on my computer as long as Bit Tornado is running. . . a la Kazaa?

I do not want to post the site for torrents as it does have warez on it. Also people cannot donwlaod any file on yoru computer. You can only seed torrents.

Good job, now uninstall that garbage and throw on Azureus. ;) :D

Posting that here will get you banned. :p

While you're downloading, you upload at the same time. When you're finished, you switch to "Seed" mode where you have the file and upload. You become a Nice Person (TM) at that point. :)

You have to have the program loaded and the torrent in the Seeding list.

Meh.. I've heard a lot of people recommending azureus so I tried it and was not very impressed. I started using bittorent with shadows experimental client(now bittornado) and prefer its simple interface.

Word to the wise, bittorrnet is one of the easiest ways to get popped by the riaa/mpaa. Your ip address is right there for all to see so easily and part of the protocol is that you must upload while downloading. I would definately think twice before downloading the latest movie, etc with it. They are even going after people trading tv episodes now so be carefull. Get peerguardian.

Yes, but the reason kazaa sucks balls now is that everyone leeches cause they are afraid (for good reason) to upload. It's much more difficult to leech from bittorrent. So you will be uploading while you are downloading and everyones ip is easily obtained from the tracker.

Your just asking for trouble if you willy-nilly on suprnova and download every new movie.

1) if you dont find that Azureus is better you are doing something wrong, its the fasrtest and most stable client there is, also has th emost options, adn its easy to use
2) run peer guardian, it blocks all thoe RIAA/MPAA Ip addys from seeing you if you download warez

I have a question about BT in general. I've gone to my router settings and have forwarded the proper ports to my PC that is running the BT client. However, I still get messages saying that it cannot connect to the tracker and so my downloads are extremely slow. I use a Linksys WRT54G and am directly wired into the router. Does anyone know if this port is possibly blocked by my ISP?

1.) Azureus is ok, but I prefer bittornado. It has all the options I need and is very simple. I would only use azureus if I had lots of torrents going at once but I usually keep it under 3. K.I.S.S.
2.) Peerguardian is good, but don't let it give you a false sense of security. They can(do?) easily bypass peerguardians list of blocked ip's.

For people just getting into bittorent: search out the torrent sites that are not public. They usually have excellent seed/leach ratios and should be a little safer.
