I used to be able to download files via bit torrent rather easily and quickly, but after installing bit torrent on a fresh (somewhat) install of XP pro, torrent files always error (cannot connect to tracker) or dl at around .1k/sec. Are there any configurations I need to make to anything in windows?

Did you remember to kill the personal firewall in XP? It's probably blocking the BT ports.

Hmm, don't think that's it. I right clicked on my Local area connection and the box wasn't checked... unless I need to go into administrative services or something.

If you're behind a router/firewall you need to forward traffic on ports 6881-6889 to your system.

Depends on your router. Usually just log in via the web admin and find the port forwarding page.

Router's web setup screen --> forwarding tab (depending on the brand) of your router)

Go to your router settings.

If you hvae a fixed mapping section, fix your MAC address to a local IP like 192.168.0.100

then go to a section called virtual server or soemthing of that nature. Type in 6881-6889 for the ports and map it to the 192.168.0.100 ip.

Reboot and hopefully your illegal downloads will quicken. (don't worry I d/l tons of stuff too ;))

It's actually 6881-6999
It is ? Azureus versions 2.0.6.0 and up has an option to allow a single port to handle all of them (check options)... and I think it was just up to 6889 (?) before this feature.

it's actually WRANG!

you could do that, doesn't matter, you could forward a range outside that. It just scans the ports for any open ones. You could even set it to your http port and it could use that as well.
