Was able to use work (NPO) to get 11% discount so I believe it's going to be about $2275 shipped -- bout the same as educational discount would have ended up I think with the tax and selling the free Touch. Didn't upgrade any of the specs, 2.8/4gb/500gb I believe.

So, I was planning on getting a 24" iMac at the end of the year. I got excited and ended up ordering this thing today. Not sure why.. I've actually got an OK rig -- E6600 2.4ghz/4gb/250x2 raid with an 8800 GTS, antec 1080B and 2 old 19" Dell ultrasharps. This MBP will be replacing my rig since I no longer have any interest in gaming (other than WoW sometimes). Also looking to sell it in the near future... (I have a Win7 HTPC I just built if i need a non bootcamp PC).

I don't travel much but I liked the option of having the portability. I'm planning on scrapping my eyesore of a desk in my living room and using the coffee table/my lap as a replacement. I hope my excitement doesn't turn into remorse :).

So. Now what? I plan on getting a decent BT mouse, and at some point in the near future looking for a discounted applecare dealy. This is obviously my first mac other than my iPHone, so other than what's readily available willing to listen to what anyone throws at me. ;D

Edit: turns out the discount wasn't as much as I thought. Cancelled the order and went the edu discount route. Will be around 2275 after rebate and sale of the ipod touch!

Congrats :) It's going to be a solid machine I'd imagine. 17" is a little too big for me, but for a DTR I'm sure it'll be nice.
I've actually always wanted to try a BT mouse, but I'm under the impression that it's very laggy compared to RF via USB.

BT isn't too laggy compared to RF, my problem with it is the incredibly limited selection. I would love the VX Revolution in BT since my laptop has it built in, and for a mouse that has an MSRP of $80 you would think that it would have it.

congrats! I picked up the 13" a week ago and it is outstanding. The multitouch trackpad is so insanely useful, I find I dont even use my Mighty Mouse anymore. But I don't do any precise work anyway.

I have a 13"MBP and I just ordered the Rocketfish Bluetooth mouse. Should be here sometime next week and I can let you know how it works out once I get it.
