Got a bonus at work; finally gave in and ordered an Athlon 64 4400+ X2, Asus A8V K8T800 Pro.

This should be a nice upgrade from my Barton 2500@3200 on an Abit AN7, and should no longer create a processor bottleneck in World of Warcraft for my BFG 6800GT agp video card 🙂

Now, it just has to get here...

btw, I ordered it as a combo from Monarch. Let's see how well they deliver!
 
probably would have been better to sell your agp 6800gt and go nforce4 rather then get a new motherboard with agp. Either way it will be quite an upgrade over the barton
 
nforce3 has iffy X2 dual-core support; few nf3 mobos have new bioses ready yet. A8V K8T800 is on the AMD approved list. (according to this article)

If I sold my BFG AGP 6800GT and bought a new PCI-E 6800GT, I'd likely lose out $20-50 shipping and depreciation over what I paid last summer, for virtually zero performance gain (or even a loss since mine is BFG OC).

So, a $97 AGP 939 mobo was my best choice for now. Besides, if I reeeally need a new video card that uses PCI express in a year or two, I can always get a new motherboard.

Any comments?
 
Nice CPU...i hate VIA chipsets, so that gets a :thumbsdown: from me...but you'll love the CPU 🙂

However, I understand your concern over nForce3's lack of mobo support...
 
Well, you'll be fine with your K8T800 as long as you don't overclock too much or anything. Have fun with your new CPU!
 
The via chipset it just fine. Performance is pretty much on par with all the other A64 chipsets in most tasks. Its also just as stable as the others. Just doesn't have some of the unnessasary features that some of the other chipsets has.

Yeah; I don't really plan on overclocking it. Stock speed should be plenty for what I'll use it for. By the time it's too slow for me, I'll either have upgraded again or bought an PCI-Express NF4 motherboard.
