You're a pro troll BFG. That's a blatant, childish piece of flame bait that we've come to expect from you, how old are you anyway, 14?
Shouldn't you be telling us about how 512 MB makes no difference to video cards, Dug?

I was hoping we could keep this type of thing in that one huge thread of badness. I lose, keys wins.

Video needs a mod squad.

lol that's a funny joke. if you're serious you're probably too sensitive to be on the Internet at all, kid.

BFG is right - the ATI cards are louder stock. They'd need a better stock cooling system before I would buy one either. I wouldn't want to mess around with the hassle or danger of taking off the stock cooling and adding an aftermarket one. End of story.

I'm suprised that minor issues can create so much drama. Its pretty apparent that different users have different sensitivity to noise. I even have examples in my own PC's where a little noisier PC is perfectly acceptable: My overclocked living room gaming machine, and where it is not: My bedroom HTPC. I don't even need to really hear a GTX card to figure that it is likely quieter, because that "appears" to be what most users are saying. I'd have to guess, that likely it would have to have aftermarket coolng as well in my bedroom PC no matter how quiet since it doesn't exhaust out the case.

I don't have an issue with instaling aftermarket cooling, just like I don't blame someone from wanting to have warranty coverage on a large purchase like these cards. We should be able to discuss at least these aspects of hardware in a civil matter.

it's like watching a train wreck . . . it's hard to look away.

i can't understand the flaming of BFG10K? he hates noise- ANY noise [ati noise or nvidia noise] - much more than the average user . . . he made a simple [general] statement and got flamed to hell.

i - personally don't care if my AGP fan is +6db louder than my old one - but some people are bothered by this. Let us alone with our preferences. Some of us dont' want to fool with "aftermarket anything"

. . . there is ONE thread open just for flaming . . . state your opinion and move on please.

Personally for me, I have a decent sound system and I always crank it up when gaming making any noise from the PC itself inaudible. My PC is quiet relatively speaking, though the way I see it. If you need absolute silence, air cooling can be very inadequate, water cooling seems to be the most cost efficient and obvious way to go from a cooling and noise standpoint.

No two ways about it, BFG10Ks main factor in video cards that they be fanless, and he doesn't seem to care which brand.

I don't understand all the flaming/childishness either. To each his own opinion?

Apparently not here.

who you calling kid, n00b?

If you can't see what a blatant (and typically BFG) troll that was...well ;)

There is a way of tempering such statements to ensure that the thread doesn't go down the train-wreck route, and clearly BFG doesn;t get it (or, more likely, he likes turning threads into trainwrecks)

It's a bit like wading into a thread commenting on a 7800GTX round up a few months ago and just typing 'Pity Nvidia's cards have such crappy filtering'...what do you think would have happened?

Actually it's nothing like that. For one the article isn't even a round-up, it's a comparison of ATi and nVidia cards. A round-up really implies only the same card from different vendors was used.

Now, multiple people stated how good it was that IQ comparison were made yet I browsed the article and couldn't see noise mentioned anywhere. If you're going to do a comparison of video cards then comparing noise is just as legitimate as comparing framerate and IQ.

It wasn't in the article so I called it out and at that point certain individuals experienced a hernia, the same individuals that were so quick to point out nVidia's inferior IQ I might add.

okay so maybe my first post @you was a little strongly worded, but i hope you can see how it caused people to react...and you should have been well aware that people WOULD respond like that. It sent the thread straight down the trainwreck route...

Your comment was perfectly valid, but you could so easily have raised your concerns in a fashion that wasn't liable to turn the thread to disaster. If you had said what you said in reply to me just now, & qualified your comment, then i would suggest we wouldn't have got quite the same responses...

Just my 2c

He could've presented his concern constructively but rather tried to stir up a fight and he got one by mentioning CCC memory usage that has nothing to do with the the thread in the slightest. Furthermore, by calling it a "jet engine" he knew he'd get a response questioning his hearing ability and intelligence.

but i dont suppose those same individuals are as quick to point out that nvidia's transperency AA IQ is superior to ati's adaptive AA either

can i get one of them cookie's?

It makes no difference as facts are facts. That certain individuals have problems accepting flaws with their company of choice is their problem, not mine.

The fact is ATi cards are louder than comparable nVidia cards and the fact is that noise is a valid measure in a video card comparison. It wasn't discussed in the article so I brought it to the table.

He could've presented his concern constructively but rather tried to stir up a fight and he got one by mentioning CCC memory usage that has nothing to do with the the thread in the slightest.
Actually it has a lot to do with the thread given they both are examples where you downplayed issues from your vendor of choice and treated it as a personal insult to your manhood when they were mentioned.

Furthermore, by calling it a "jet engine" he knew he'd get a response questioning his hearing ability and intelligence.
I see, so it's not the fact that you launched personal insults, it's the fact that I "knew" you would do this?

Seriously, if you think people are going to go along with your "la la la, ATi is great and has no problems" fantasy then you are in for a serious shock.

If you want to launch personal insults that's fine, just be prepared for a response and don't go running to the mods with your tail between your legs four days after editing your original posts and deleting evidence, as per your usual tactics.

Speaking of noisy cards, my roommate just got a 7800GT (BFG OC model) and it sounds like a friggin' jet engine. It also apparently cannot be clocked down using RivaTuner without some hardware modifications. That's terrible. Good thing there is both a passively-cooled model (Asus offering) and an aftermarket cooler model (Gigabyte offering) on the market.

I hope the X1900XT becomes available with those options as well. I will definitely pick one up if they offer alternate cooling solutions and it's the best card for the money at that time.
