Well, I dropped the $200 and bought it. So far, it works great. However, I tried the LiteOn bitsetting utility mentioned in the review and it didn't work. Any ideas on firmware hacks to allow this? I've yet to find anything. Thanks!

I believe so... it was that article that prompted me to follow the link to check the software out. I'm away from home this weekend so I'll double check when I return to be sure. I'll have to compare firmware revisions as well as the final shipping verison might have disabled it. (Although why this would be a concern I'm not exactly sure). Again, thanks for your assistance.
 
Just got home and checked... Same problem. I noticed in the screenshot the firmware (I think) is VYV3. Mine is VY02. Anyone else had issues with this drive? Thanks folks!
