Bit of a problem, Newegg related, but not their fault

Let us go back to November of 2005. My dad asked me to help him out with computers for his office, told him I could save him money and build them for him. He got cheaper computers out of it, I got a nice new gaming rig. Newegg at that time had some kind of warehouse problem, part of my order never shipped, so I called and asked for a refund, which they gave me. Fast forward to January 2006, I have a FedEx box from Newegg show up at my door. "Odd, I didn't order anything." I opened it up and found out it was the parts we recieved a refund for because we never got them. I gave them to my dad, he said he'd ship them back, but apparantly he'd asked me to ship them back. All confusion aside, I was cleaning up in the garage yesterday, and I opened a box up that I didn't recognize, found all the parts inside it. Should I just mail it back to Newegg's RMA dept, call them, or what?

1. Newegg didn't send part of order.
2. Newegg refunded us.
3. I thought my dad shipped the stuff back, he thought I did.
4. Found the stuff yesterday,
5. What do I do with it?

Well, technically, they messed up and not you, thus you could just keep the stuff. But if your heart is panging with guilt then e-mail them and ask, I guess. Chances are they will just tell you to keep it because restocking it, etc, will actually cost them more.

An X-Fi Platinum, 5 floppy drives, and Arctic Silver Thermal Compound Cleaner. About $200.

Thing is, I e-mailed them about it as soon as I got it, and they said send it back. Due to me being a dumbass and not actually checking if my dad sent it out, and my dad relying on a teenager like myself to actually do something he was told to, the stuff is still here.

And yes I was supposed to pay to ship these back.

EDIT: Checked the FedEx label, apparantly I got these at the end of February. So it was quite some time between the time I got my refund and the time I got this stuff. Just looked through Gmail and couldn't find anything, I never delete Newegg emails, so I think I might have called them, rather than e-mail.

So if I'm reading this correctly, they asked you send the stuff back in 2005, correct? Well if it has been this long and they didn't bother you about it anymore, I'd assume they don't miss the stuff too much.

5 Floppy Drives?!?!?!!

Anyways, here is what I would do (and have done in the past with companies.)

Hop on the live chat thing that they have on the site, with a timer set to five minutes.

Tell them the situation, and if they don't have a return label on the way to you before the timer is up, keep it.

Said I should try and send the stuff back end of February 2006, at least that's when the FedEx label says the stuff was shipped, I can only assume that I called them when I noticed that I hadn't ordered the stuff. I doubt they even have record of me recieving the items, because I didn't get any order e-mails/shipping e-mails.

I'm going to try that.

So they shipped it November 2005 and you got it Feb 2006?

edit: Fedex probably paid newegg already for insurance

I wouldn't worry about it

Why would FedEx pay Newegg?

Read the thread. It shipped in Febuary, not November. It was not a loss.

From what Newegg told me, they had "warehouse problems" (all these items should have shipped from TN), namely a warehouse burning down, that kept me from getting my stuff, ie, it shipped when I got it, not in November. The label says Deliver By FEB15, Ship Date 02/10/2006, so unless Newegg wanted me to wait, it got shipped someitme in February. The order history has a UPS tracking number up on their page saying the stuff got delivered in December, but the box says otherwise as it has a FedEx label, with completely different ship dates. I called them in December for not getting my stuff, and got a couple of e-mails + a refund to my dad's CC. When I called them in February, I got e-mails as well.

Here's the RMA e-mail I got from Newegg after calling them about never recieving the items, with stuff blanked out

HERE IS A SUMMARY OF YOUR RMA:
Customer Name:
Customer Number:
E-mail address:
Address:
Phone:

(21-103-203) (FD 1.44MB|SAMSUG SFD321B/LBL1 %) (Quantity: 5 )
RMAReason: FedEx Return
(29-102-190) (CREATIVE SOUND CARD X-FI PLATINUM) (Quantity: 1 )
RMAReason: FedEx Return
(35-100-010) (CPU CLEAN|ARCTIC CLEAN ACN-60ML %) (Quantity: 1 )
RMAReason: FedEx Return

Type of RMA: RMA Refund
Restocking Fee: No

Then I got these two

RMA# was successfully delivered to our warehouse on 12/21/2005. This is simply a confirmation of delivery email; an additional notification indicating all of the contents we have received will be sent to your email address once we open the RMA'd package.

Type of RMA: RMA Refund

Previously we sent you an email to alert you that your RMA had successfully arrived to our warehouse. We have since opened the package and are hereby notifying you of the contents we received:

21-103-203 FD 1.44MB|SAMSUG SFD321B/LBL1 % (Quantity: 5 )
29-102-190 CREATIVE SOUND CARD X-FI PLATINUM (Quantity: 1 )
35-100-010 CPU CLEAN|ARCTIC CLEAN ACN-60ML % (Quantity: 1 )

Type of RMA: RMA Refund

And then this

HERE IS A SUMMARY OF YOUR RMA:
Customer Name:
Customer Number:
E-mail address:
Address:
Phone:

(21-103-203) (FD 1.44MB|SAMSUG SFD321B/LBL1 %) (Quantity: 5 )
RMAReason: No longer needed
(29-102-190) (CREATIVE SOUND CARD X-FI PLATINUM) (Quantity: 1 )
RMAReason: No longer needed
(35-100-010) (CPU CLEAN|ARCTIC CLEAN ACN-60ML %) (Quantity: 1 )
RMAReason: No longer needed

Type of RMA: RMA Refund
Restocking Fee: No

As you can see, I'm quite confused.

Personally, if all that time has passed, and they hadn't really come looking for it or charged you again, I would just keep it. The amount of stuff they probably move in a average day, that's a drop in the bucket.

Of course, that's just me...

Also, it's weird they sent you those emails that they had received the package, and even opened it to confirm the contents.

:)

The 5 floppy drives were for my father's office build, which sat incomplete till December when I called them because I couldn't install SATA drivers ;), the X-Fi was for myself. Anyways, after I called them in December and got the refund (and Newegg license plate border thingies and a t-shirt) I just bought the parts from ZZF. So, now I have two X-Fis, and 5 unneeded floppy drives.

All this aside, I'm going to call Newegg on Monday and see if they even have record of me getting this stuff, because they didn't in February, I doubt they would now. No order number, no e-mails, nothing in my order history; seems to me like this stuff was paid for by an insurance company sometime after this warehouse burned down (or just a potential fvckup they covered up with that) or when they told me they'd recieved the items.
