Almost 2 years ago I was doing my daily bike ride up in the hills and found a hand held laser scanner in the middle of the road. I looked around, there was nobody. I brought it home. Removing the battery, I found a serial number, manufacturer, and a telephone number. I called the number and explained that I'd found the scanner. After a time, they came back and told me who the scanner belonged to and that I should expect a phone call (I gave them my number). Nobody ever called me.

Looking this thing up on the Internet I see that new it costs around $1,400. Used, who knows? Well, I just started selling on Ebay a month or so ago, and I figured why not try to sell this thing? I just posted, with a starting price of $10. Should I really do that, or should I remove my posting?

after 2 years, they're yours now. unless you have some use for them, sell it.

no reasonable person would expect someone to hold onto something they lost for 2 years without even trying to contact you.

Yeah, I know that seems dumb. I really don't feel bad about it, I just want to make sure I'm not liable to get in trouble. Really, that's my only concern here. Whoever buys it may call the company looking for parts or whatever and if they give them the serial number, well, I don't know what will happen. Maybe they'll insist on returning it to whomever. Doesn't seem likely, but seems conceivable. Then I'd presumably have explaining to do. Of course, my story seems sensible and I've no reason not to stick by it. It's the truth. However, I didn't explain in the listing that I'd found this thing!!!
