Birthing and Beginnings Classes

We took Bradley classes and they were nice. I think it's more to help you feel comfortable with the prospect, rather than to ACTUALLY provide you with technique. For my wife it helped her feel as though she were DOING something and not just waiting for delivery day.

did you use what you learned during labor? my wife and i were thinking of taking bradley method classes but are going to opt for lamaze classes for now since her insurance reimburses us and we've heard that the classes are best for informing parents-to-be what to expect during the labor and birth as opposed to be used expressly for what they are intended. we're also just reading bradley method books for the time being. as for beginnings classes, we'll probably take a newborn care class just because neither of us has had newborns before 🙂

Is that like LaMaz? Just WTF is LaMaz anyways??? Its on my list of things I'll never understand and hope I never will!

What helped me the most was watching a dog I had taken in as a foster pet give birth to puppies.

I am not kidding.

This little dog waited for me to get home from work (back when I was a vet's assistant) and the second I came home, she led me to the laundry room/birthing area I had set up for her. She started panting, did a lot of walking around, sitting, getting back up again etc, and during this time she popped out three perfect little pups.

2 weeks later I found out that I was pregnant with my first child, and even though I was just a baby myself (19!) I read up everything I could on pregancy and childbirth. The thing is, you can't fight your uterus. You've just got to let go and let uterus, you know what I mean? 😀

I had my first 2 kids naturally, no pain killer. You have to be able to accept the pain and ride the waves... a lot of it is mental. If you don't think you can do it, don't be a hero!

For my third, I requested to be pain free. It was fun. 🙂 When transition came, I was like, "Hey! I think I'm in transition! " as compared to with my first two, when all I could manage was something like, "Uuuuuuhhhhhhhnnnnnnnn ahhhhhh ahhhhh"

Do whatever is going to make it special for you... period. Just keep io mind that having a baby IS excruciatingly painful, and no technique will take that pain away. You have to ride it out or request an epidural. 😉

well the Lamaze class was not really helpful to my wife. But she did love the epaderale (whatver its spelled). Though the new baby classes we took were kinda helpfull. we learned how to cope with a screaming baby, how to change diapers basic first aid, stuff such as that.

but all in all it was nothing that was to usefull.
