Depends on how much you are wanting to spend.

A nice-ride on toy would probably be cool. I'm not that good with kids, but you could start off a collection of a toy like Fisher Price's Little People. That's a toy that children as young as 1 can play with, and will be good until they start playing with more mature toys, like when they are 6 or 7.
