Birth Order And Business Owners
<<Statistically, more business owners are more likely to be firstborn than any other birth position. (Don't be offended, younger siblings!) At a very young age, firstborns are trained to understand the rules and pursue perfection. These traits frequently result in restlessness in an employment situation, leading to the firstborn starting or buying his/her own company.

Firstborns have been around adults all of their lives -- hence, they are generally more comfortable with others who are older. More responsibility is usually thrust on the oldest child as well, again feeding that "in charge" tendency.

The downside to being firstborn is the same as the upside. Some firstborns can be intolerant taskmasters, requiring the same level of perfection from others that they expect from themselves. In addition, the weight of responsibility can often create incredible stress.

So, if you're firstborn, take heart -- but know thyself well!>>

I'm an only child... so it doesn't really matter to me :)

There are some points that I don't really see fit in this argument though, the main one being is that the first born is around adults all their lives. I don't find this to be true... what if the first born is neglected and the later siblings are not? There are too many different modes within this argument that make it void.

This is merely personality... some "first-borns" are slackers... some are not... so to say that all firstborns are subjected to such scrutiny and ideals would definitely be a fallacy. I'm pretty sure that this the statistics that underly such an argument would be merely coincidental if occuring at all. Where are the numbers? This sounds like something out of the ENQUIRER ;)

If any of you would like to read more about the topic of birth order and its related influences on an individual's path through life, read Born to Rebel (sorry, not a link to a bookstore where you can buy it, I'm far too lazy to do that). It is an entire book that discusses how one's birth order affects how one thinks, what one does, and other facets of one's life. Interesting reading.
