*Most of the information I've heard has been from those lawyers that are always trying to get class-action law suits going on big companies, but that doesn't mean the info isn't true. Blood clots and stroke are listed in the side-effects of using Ortho Evra. They just didn't say it was so common.*

From the time the patch came out in August 2002 to August 2005 seventeen women have suffered fatal heart attacks which are being directly linked to the birth control patch. Two of the 3319 women on Ortho Evra died of blood clot related injuries during the trials.

Just thought you guys might want to know this stuff. I already made an appointment to switch to the pill. I've been having chest pains recently (before finding this out), so hearing about all that convinced me to switch.

All pills have some sort of side effect in their history. That's why so many differetn pills exist. Some will work better for other people.

Wow. The GF only used them for a few months, but I guess we probably won't go back to them. Considering one of the implants.

you know the fatality rate for oral contraceptives is about 1 in 100,000. it's not "safe" either. if you're having side effects, by all means go off it, but you may have similar issues with the pill. you should look into other options if you can.

My wife used to use it. Then we just went to condoms. Now she gets the shot. Every three months or something. She likes the shot best.

A friend of mine's gf was on the pill. One day she walked into work at 6am and dropped dead from a blood clot. Saddest part was that she was a nurse and died in a hospital of all places.... It hurt my friend pretty bad since he'd been dating the girl for over 2 years.... But it certainly taught me something about bc and blood clots. There's always a chance.

Norplant, IUD, something along those lines. Her sister has something like that and was telling her about it, and it seemed appealing.

Bump.

But also, in my case, I have to be on birth control for medical reasons. So i'm kinda screwed either way.

And to the idiots that think 17 out of 4 million isn't a lot, it really is. And that's only the ones that died. Many others have had complications and stuff. I'm just trying to let people know of the risk that most doctors won't really tell them.

My wife actually suffered terrible headaches when she moved to the patch. She stopped using it after we traced it to that.

Is it all patches or just that particular brand?

Just that particular brand as far as I know.

I think there is only 1 right now.

Of course my girl is on the low dose BC pill, but I looked into this (patch) as well. She only wants to have 1 kid so after that i will get fixed.

Its the same exact thing that happens with the pill. These are documents and listed as side effects.

to the imbeciles that think that's a lot, there's always a small group of people that have an adverse reaction to ANY drug. the fact is that the patch is safe for 99% of people. like all drugs, if you experience a reaction to it, stop taking it. it's not for you. if you look at the stats on the pill, they're not all that different. i hate it when stupid uninformed people read something in cosmo, panic, and then start spreading FUD.

how do people not know the risks? if the doctor for some bizarre reason doesn't tell you, the pharmacist almost certainly will, and they are required by law to tell you of side effects in writing. they are usually on a paper attached to the drugs. you can always go on webmd too and look at the side effects.

The Drs may not tell them but the pharmicist includes the list of side effects with the perscribed pills/patch. Fact of the matter is almost all forms of hormonal contraceptive(the pill, norplant, depo, the patch) have similar side effects.

Yes, becuase i read this in cosmo

No sh!t there's a risk for any drug. Fact is, the risk is very high with this one. That's all i was trying to get across.

People are literally dropping dead for fvck's sake. They don't even have symptoms, it just happens. You can put your girlfriend on it if you want, I don't really give half a sh!t.

most of the time, these risks are exacerbated by smoking. so if you're a smoker, ideally you should avoid the pill altogether. they are only focusing on the patch for now as being "worse" than the pill in this respect.
