So it started on sunday. A loud banging coming from our fireplace. It's a brick fireplace with a metal flu/chimney; it's also bent so you can see from the bottom out the top. At night, I shined a flash light up it, and it starting cooing, so I know its a bird.
I've already tried the trick where you shine the flash light up with all other lights off and the door open (suppose to be attracted to the light and fly down and out the door). This bird makes a sporadic noise during the day after I get home from work - not too much though. The morning is when its really bad, 5:45am - 6:30am (when i leave the house). This must be driving my neighbors nuts.
My girlfriend is so fed up, she told me that we're going to just buy a log and either deter it from staying (if thats the case), or put it out of its misery (if it's stuck). Any other suggestions? Could it really be stuck or making a home?
Notes:
-Rental House, landlord non-existant
-Height of the house makes it impossible to see from the ground and we dont own a ladder
-Roof is so poorly made that I dont want to get on it (clay shingles that neighbors have brought to our front door saying "this fell into our backyard" - they weigh about 10 lbs a piece) - Think - show home from arrested development
-"Friendly animal removal" companies charge an arm and a leg
