Bird Identification Question

I came home the other day and the cats had killed another critter. I started checking it out to see what it was, and I saw these green legs lying on the ground.

The legs looked very similar to a Turkey's legs, but they were green. Actually, they were bright green.

From what was left of the bird it looked like it's feathers were mostly black, maybe a little bit of white.

Any ideas of what kind of bird this is? I'm located in Northwestern IL.

Sorry, no pics of the legs. They were gone when I decided to take a picture.

Lots of birds and fowl make Illinois their home.

This time of year you might also see migrating birds.

I have seen Yellow Finches with some black. I have seen Blue Birds. I have seen Turkeys. I have seen Wood Ducks sometimes called wood hens which are a forrest duck. Egrets, Hawks, Eagles, Starlings, etc. I have seen a few exotic species that seemed odd also. Might be getting some species down from Canada up around Chicago.

I saw some kind of bird a while ago that looked like a puffin. It had a kind of curved beak that was orange and mostly jet black.
