I've been diagnosed with bipolar for a long time, only fairly recently (past year) been treated for it and it seems like no matter what medicine they give me, it works for a few days and then has no effect on me whatsoever. I've been on depakote, lithium, trileptal, neurontin, cymbalta, orap, zyprexa, geodon, and god knows what else, and it always seems like none of this helps and just makes me worse cause now i'm rapid cycling and blah blah blah.. The psych doctor says I just have an unusually high metabolism and that explains why stuff like ativan and
valium only work for a day or two to keep me calm when I'm having a lot of anxiety and they have to switch to other crap.

Have any others of you who have bipolar gone through the same thing with meds, and if so, what have you done to cope with the mood swings? I kinda think I'm just not on a good combination of medicine but I'm beginning to wonder, so I figured I'd ask cause I'm getting desperate.

Booze and hookers usually work for me. If not, you could try gambling.
