I'm in the process of upgrading my computer and I just have a couple questions about the new mobo, the Biostar TA890GXB HD, utilizing AMD's 890GX chipset.

Here's the specs of the new setup.

Mobo: duh
CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 740 (hopefully unlockable to X4 *crosses fingers*)
RAM: 4gb Crucial DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) 2x2gb sticks running in dual-channel
Video Card: Integrated Radeon HD 4290 512mb shared
Hard Drive: 250gb Seagate SATA 3.0 7,200 RPM

First off, how does the IGP handle semi-modern games such as The Sims 3, Crysis 1.2, Quake 4, etc? I know it's rated to provide lag-free HD video, but what about gaming? Does anyone have experience with the 890GX chipset's IGP? I have a Dell Geforce 6800 PCI-e 1.0 256mb card from my old computer. Even though the amount of ram is doubled on the integrated HD 4290, and the core clock speed is more than doubled, do you think the 6800 would still be better because it's discrete?

Secondly, how much heat is produced by the northbridge of this particular mobo? If I decide to OC the IGP, will the stock heatsink provide enough heat distribution as to not fry the northbridge? I don't have the money for a new video card right now. If I did, I wouldn't even consider OCing the IGP. But, with proper heat distribution, I think it should be safe. I think.

Lastly, I would like to hear your experiences with this motherboard and/or chipset. If you own(ed) a mobo with this chipset, or this mobo specifically, please post your comments on it.

Sims and maybe quake at lowwer settings ok. Not sure about Crysis.

I overclocked mine and the factory heatsink was ok. I have a couple case fans so make sure you have good airflow and you should be ok.
