just had another asus board take a crap on me so swearing them off for a while

was thinking about getting this from newegg or ewiz.

I've got a 6000+ to drop down into and might get a Phenom later on.
It's kind of new so I haven't been able to find any reviews.

Will hold the latest Phenoms, 16 GB memory, has a 2600 MHz FSB, 6 SATA2 ports

I think they are pretty much like the GX2 board but they have 128 MB for on boardd video memory vice the 64 the GX2 has

I have the latter, great board, layout is pretty good (aside from the SATA ports, would have preferred a couple right-angle ports at the edge of the board). The extra PCIe slot is nice too.

The biggest complaint about the Biostar boards is that the master PCIe 16x slot is the one right next to the PCI slots. If you use a double-slot video card, it pretty much makes the PCI slots unusable.

Dunno about the Biostar....I have a Gigabyte...same as SunnyD. Good board, particularly if you are thinking Phenom in the future (SB750). Mine is in RMA at the moment, however........bit by the bios corruption bug!
I ended up buying an Asus M3A79-T Deluxe while the Giga is being repaired....seriously considering a second HD4850 since it has 2-16x PCIe. If you really want to go with the Biostar you might check over at Rebels Haven...lots of Biostar stuff going on there!

that's why I am hesitant about Gigabyte right now. A failed bios update killed my ASUS M2N-E SLI board and don't really want anything that has bios problems right off the board.

I'll be dual booting with Kubuntu and Vista 64 if that matters

I was kind of scared myself after finding out about this AFTER buying the board. I started to have some problems (BSODs) over the last few days... but that could be from not reinstalling Windows after changing from a NVIDIA based board too - so it was somewhat expected.

I'm not sure if one of my hard drives is dying or whether it's related to the board. I reinstalled Vista last night after panning through the drive issue (drive tested fine too), and everything seems to be pretty much kosher now with the system.

Out of all of the 790GX boards out there, I'd go with the Gigabyte, Foxconn or Asus board. I got impatient waiting for the Foxconn board, plus the Gigabyte board has SPDIF out and an extra PCIe 1x slot on it. The Asus board has the 3rd 16x (@4x) slot on it, which is nice, and has a slightly better layout than the Gigabyte board, and the eSATA port, but also is slightly more expensive. The Foxconn board I just know is going to be rock solid stable, has a great layout for the most part, and is the cheapest of the three - but doesn't have the SPDIF for my z5500's.

I ended up getting the Gigabyte board simply because it was in stock, was on sale making it closer to the Foxconn board, and has a good feature set. That and Gigabyte is generally really stable... but the BIOS corruption issues has me a little worried and waiting for a BIOS update.

I dig biostar boards these days. The 780G board I have is nothing but quality and stability so far.
