Ok, so I jumped on the amd 754 3400 with free biostar board. Now my problem is the board absolutely won't boot from a restart. I installed win98se and xp64, and it's the same story on both of them. The first line during booting is the processor information looks something like this:

amd 64 3400 2000mhz
1024xxxx ok

ddr333, 1t
etc etc

BUT when I restart from windows, it shuts down and gives me

ddr333, 1t

NO cpu information, and hangs at this screen. It like bypasses the cpu, and hangs, then reboots itself, and repeats this process like 3 or 4 times before it finally boots. If I shut it off during the reboot, and power back on, it boots flawlessly every time!

I have unplugged all dvd/floppy drives except the boot drive, doesn't help. I have a pci soundcard along with the onboard audio, they dont seem to be conflicting. Im using the pci card while i wait for a 9800pro, can it be the video card? It works fine in win98..

Can anyone help me out?

Specs:

thermaltake tr2 430w psu
biostar nf325-a7
amd64 3400+ venice (754)
200gb sata drive w/ xp64
120gb ata drive w/ 98se
creative blaster banshee voodoo 16mb pci card
auzentech xmystique soundcard

Fixed! It was a maxtor 6B200S drive, they are apparantly reknown for causing hangs at boot. It was due to the drives firmware, fixed with an email request to maxtor for new firmware.

Thx for posting the fix, dustman! I wish more users would do that. I've a couple of these boards I haven't played w/yet, as well as some Maxtor HD's laying around here, so you may have just saved me some grief.
