I've read somewhere that Albatron,ECS and Biostar Nforce 3 are literally the same mb plus or minus a few capacitors. I also read that these are not great overclockers...

I have this mb but I am waiting for the cpu to arrive.

yeah that was posted in the pcper forums by yours truely. however i don't have any of them, but a guy there bought the ecs variant and says it's a very stable mobo and a fairly good overclocker for the money. i don't think you will get 300 of of the mobo, more like 245. you will likely have to pony up for the more costly dfi nf3 250gb if you wan't a 'stable' 300.

Oddly enough, I just upgraded from the Chaintech 7NJS Ultra to the Biostar NF325-A7 (talk about a coincidence- 2 very obscure boards!). I just got it all set up the other day and haven't had that much time to mess with it.

One thing I did notice is that the BIOS I'm running doesn't have much in the way of OC options. It has a setting for memory where you can choose 200, 166, 133, or 100mhz, but nothing higher. As for CPU OC it has settings for like 2%, 4%, and 6% overclock (or something like that) but no way to choose your HTT frequency that I saw. Granted I didn't have that much time to mess with it. I'm hoping that a newer BIOS will be better; there is one released this month and one from last month.

Biostar has a program called "warpspeeder" that is supposed to be a windows based OC utility. According to their site, this mobo supports it. But when I loaded it this morning it wouldn't let me change anything, just view my speed and voltages (which I guess is good cuz this mobo also isn't supported by MBM5!)

I'm starting to regret my purchase of this board, although it was very cheap and I got it brand new (any other NF3 board for that price would have been refurb). I'll PM you or reply when/if I figure anything else out. As it stands it is a decent board, seems to run very fast with my A64 3200+ as compared to the Chaintech with a mobile XP @2.2ghz.

PS Are you running stock speed by choice on the Chaintech, or did it not OC well for you?

PS I'm looking on the PCper forums for any posts about this board, so far can't find any with any good info.

The board is probably void of manually incrementing the OC to decent speeds like the ECS version of this board. If you can i would suggest the ECS NF3 over the Biostar ...but only if you want a better overclock. If not keep the Biostar. if nothing else Biostar Nforce mobos are the most solid stable AMD mobos in existence IMO, and i have used them all from the lowest brands to the highest rated.

I have also had excellent experience with Biostar boards, which is why I went with this particular board (that and the price of course). I guess I'll stick with it for a while. It just sucks that I have a decently OCable CPU (A64 3200+ clawhammer) and a nice HSF (Thermaltake Big Typhoon) and I'm wasting at least several hundred mhz. Oh well.

UPDATE on this board: I got a chance last night to mess with the BIOS a bit more. It turns out there is an option to overclock the HTT as high as 250. You can't seperate the memory speed though so you'll need some good RAM if you plan on going that high. You can't change the multiplier (I didn't see that option) mine is at 10 so it works fine. I set it at 210 and am leaving it there until I know its stable. I'll try to keep inching it up but I need some faster RAM.

So in summary, the board is not a dud when it comes to overclocking. It's not an "extreme" board either, but 250 is not too bad especially if your memory is doing 250 as well.
