I think that I am having problems with my motherboard. My sytem components consist of the folowing items:

Windows XP OS
Biostar M7VIK VIA KT400 Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2000+/266 Processor
Speeze All Aluminum Heatsink and Fan
Leadtek VGA GF4 MX440 TDH 64M 8X Video Card
Kingston DDRAM 512M/DDR333 PC-2700 Memory
Creative Lads Soundblaster Audigy Platinum Sound Card
WD 120G SE Hard Drive
WD 100G SE Hard Drive
Lite-On 32X12X40X CD RW
Generic 10X DVD ROM
Generic Floppy Disk Drive
Antec 350W Power Supply
2 Antec Case Fans

HERE IS THE PROBLEM:

When I try to boot up my computer from a full shutdown, the drives and everything turns on but then it just sits there and does nothing, not even a beep, but the power light is on. The monitor also sayscheck signal. The only way to get the system to boot up is to reset the switch on the power supply, then I press the button on the front of the computer. The system then boots up with no problem. I get one beep, if that means anything. I tried a different power supply, video card, booting up with different components connected at different times, still having the same problem. If any one can give me some feedback your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much:disgust:

It is possible that the "power good" signal on your PSU isn't working properly. Try: 1- If your case has a reset button connected to the right pins on your mobo, the next time you power up and boot doesn't complete, press the reset button for a second. If your machine then boots up, that is circumstantial evidence of a bad "power good" signal. 2- Swap PSU with a known good unit to complete the proof. Otherwise one of the following ideas might help.

Boilerplate-01:
. Most frequent causes of failure to boot:
1- RAM, CPU or AGP video card not seated properly, or a bent pin.
2- Drive data cable on upside down or only on half the pins or shifted . a pin or two (usu Floppy or Zip drives).
3- CMOS needs to be cleared (AC power must usually be disconnected or . attempt to clear CMOS may fail) Unless your mobo does not use a power-off CMOS clear - check your mobo manual for specific info.

Your problem is an exact match to the problem of mine. :( For now the reasons are not known to me. I think this could be:

1. Insufficient voltage supplied to the CPU as it doesn't have a dedicated P4 connector.
2. Cheap ECS slots don't make good contact with components no matter what.
3. ?

I think it's insufficient power to the CPU. The sympthoms are exactly the same I had when I used to OC my old board wich didn't have any voltage upping.

It turns out that my Biostar M7VIK motherboard doesn't like that Antec 350W Power Supply. I initially suspected the power supply and went out and purchased a brand new one. I installed it and I had the same problem. I eventually used the PS that is in my kids system and now my rig works like a charm. By the way their system now has the Antec and it works like a charm. Thanks for trying to help
