BioStar Motherboard memory oddities

building a comp for my kid. It works fine and Windows 7 recognizes 4 GB of ram, but I noticed as it boots and checks memory, it counts to 3328 MB then skips to 4096 and counts from 4096 to 4864. I have never seen that before. It is a A780L3B with 2x2Gb GSKILL DDR3 1333 mem.

I ran a linux mem test and it counts it the same way. As long as that shouldn't hurt the performance I guess all is good, anyone know why this is happening?

Thanks,

P.S. I know Biostars are cheap Motherboards.

Hi,

look at Internal Graphics Mode in your BIOS, page 24 in manual (http://www.biostar.com.tw/upload/Manual/A78LD-M3S_121203_B.zip)
try to switch FB Location to: Under 4G, and examine what's happen

maybe this help you

Thanks, did that already, made no difference. I have the onboard video disabled, I tried enabling it and setting it at 32 MB, that didn't make any difference either.

FWIW that 3328 MB point is I think the same limitation in 32 bit systems. Not sure what that means, but interesting anyway.
