Got my biostar mobo that i ordered in from new egg. bought refurb OEM and they sent me a new retail version. Not bad for $45 shipped and came with norton internet security. well, my question is, is Biostar reliable and have any of you had any experiance with this mobo? Is biostar manufactured by ECS like abit? but they cant be any worse than the PCchips mobo she is running now, although it has lasted for well over 5 years and will the biostar mobo run ok with a 230Watt generic PSU if i dont have any expansion cards and not o/c?

btw, this is for my moms pc. she is in for one hell of an upgrade

from
Windows 98SE
PCchips mobo
Pentium 233mmx
64mb SDram (generic and mixed)
Voodoo3
Aureal Vortex 1
generic NIC

to this
windows xp pro sp1
nforce2 biostar mobo
athlon 1700+ (not going to o/c)
512mb PC2100 Crucial memory
nForce2 IGP (GeForce4 MX)
nForce sound
nForce NIC

should i feel guilty for making her use her old system for that long?

I have built a bunch of machines using Biostar boards and have never had a problem with them, as far I am concerned they are top of the line for a budget board.

First, how can you talk bad about that PC Chips board when it's been running over 5yrs? Anywho, Biostar makes very good price/performance boards now, Mike the Admin for nForcersHQ has been using a Biostar M7NCG v1.4 for awhile now and loves it.

Edit: No way should you feel bad about mom using that old system so long, I'm sure solitaire and the internet were running fine on it ;)
