Bioshock, who uses the quest arrow?

I've been playing some more Bioshock and I've realized the quest arrow makes the game extremely linear and in a way makes you lose much of what makes the Bioshock experience so unique.

I'm just interested to know, who here uses the quest arrow? I personally don't, I just found myself way too many times immersed in a level exploring rooms and whatnot that I even forget what my current goal is, the world of Rapture is incredible in that way, there is so many detail yet not everything is essential or explorer in the main storyline. I think you are missing out on a lot of the Rapture world by using quest arrow.

So yeah poll speaks for itself, do you or do you not use the quest arrow in BS and why?

I used it whenever I got stuck. Usually, I just went everywhere on the level, regardless of quests to just explore and clear. I didn't turn it off and liked having it there. After playing games where I spent literally hours just looking for a freaking door/object on a level, then eventually giving up and going to a walkthrough, I'm happy it's there.

Same here. After I finished exploring everything I could find I used it to figure out where I was supposed to go.

For some reason, i hate open games. Which is probably why I also hated Games like Oblivion. I LIKE having some purpose, and a guide to tell me how to get there. I have plenty of fun along the way, without having to just go some random path.

Anyway, I play with it on.

I'm wonder why at times the arrow disappears ? Is it because you are in the correct zone, to complete the objective at hand

Hell no.

I played in hard, no arrow, no adaptative training, no item shimmer, no hints.

If only one could disable those stupid Vita-Chambers.

I'd use it to know which way to *not* go if I wanted to explore. So if the arrow said go left at a T-junction, I'd usually go right just to see what was over there.

same here

I liked it, used it after I was done exploring and "Spoiler here*

On the quest to complete the masterpiece for that psycho, I frag naded the last guy I had to photograph, he ends up hanging over a beam up in the ceiling. I had to shoot him back down to take the picture. The quest arrow kept disappearing, but I didn't see the body, eventually I looked up and laughed. Exploding buck didnt do the trick, so I had to launch frags above him to bounce him down. Even TK didnt pull him down.

No quest arrow, loot glint, any of that stuff. It drove me nuts that plot related items are all glowy and twinkly no matter what, and your current goal has a big, pulsating star on the map showing you where it is... plus the play tips like "Search containers for LOOT" that would keep popping up.

Great game, but I hate hand-holding.

I agree, I wonder how Bioshock would have been if it was a PC-exclusive game?

Anyways I just finished it, seemed a tad short but I enjoyed every minute of it and then the ending... disappointing and anti-climatic to say the least.

No, It would ruin the experience for me. They created a vast city for you and you are just going to follow a frigging arrow to the objective? 0_o.

That sounds ridiculous to me.

Agree. That's why I disable it.
