According to the game's official Cult of Rapture web site, a PC patch and Xbox 360 title update will go live next week, and both will also include additional content. 2K's Elizabeth Tobey told IGN that, among other things, the download will include new plasmids and a change to the game's widescreen field of vision.

A full list of bug fixes and extra content will be posted on the Cult of Rapture site when the patches are ready, 2K said.

In October, BioShock creator Ken Levine told 1up that the game's future downloadable content would likely take the form of combat enhancements or other gameplay additions rather than new levels. Levine has also said number of plasmids were cut from the final game.

I would rather get new levels ... I've got no more ADAMs to buy new Plasmids from my save game. Don't really have time to play all over again.

I would like them to add new splicers. There were too few enemy types.

I didn't see any mention of SecuROM or activation limits listed in that article or another one I saw earlier, so I guess not.

SecuROM was the biggest source of problems and complaints, so they should have dealt with that first. The game's been cracked, and has been out awhile. I don't see why they think they still need copy protection on it.

Out Today - Dec 4th

New York, NY - December 4, 2007 - 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today that BioShock, its top-rated title exclusively available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows®, has released new downloadable content for players on both platforms. The content includes new Plasmids and Tonics, achievements and interface upgrades, and is now available as free downloadable content from Xbox LIVE® Marketplace, through an Xbox 360 Title Update, and as part of a PC patch.

"As one of the highest rated games of the year, we wanted to continue to connect with the fans that made BioShock such an overwhelming retail and critically-acclaimed hit," said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. "We are excited to offer new downloadable content that will extend and enhance the replay value of this title."

New downloadable content includes:

Four Plasmids and Gene Tonics:

* Sonic Boom: Hurls creatures and objects back with a blast of force
* EVE saver: Enables Plasmids to use less EVE
* Vending Expert: Reduces prices in the vending machines
* Machine Buster: Increases the amount of damage players deal to cameras, bots and turrets

Achievements (exclusive to Xbox 360):

* Xbox 360 players can gain 100 points for "Brass Balls," by beating BioShock on the "hard" difficulty setting without dying

In response to gamers' requests and feedback from the Cult of Rapture (www.CultofRapture.com) community forums, fans of BioShock now have a widescreen option, granting a wider horizontal field of vision, as well as additional enhancements to the game. The Xbox 360 Title Update will be automatically applied at the game's startup when users log into Xbox LIVE. PC owners can access both the additional content and gameplay improvements via a downloadable patch, available at www.2Kgames.com/bioshock/support.

Darn, I'm pretty sure I already did that when I beat it on Hard. I wonder if the achievement will unlock if you die and restart from a save point (not a vitachamber)? I'll let one of the crazies on the achievement-specific sites figure it out, first. :p

What the fuck ever. I've never heard so much pointless whining than when this first leaked. Awww, poor babies can't see a couple extra inches on each side. Widescreen isn't a luxury item. The dumbasses are the people that bitch and moan, saying they bought widescreen "for a reason", so they can see more. A 20" 4:3 monitor has more useable pixels than does a 20" 16:10 screen does.

If anything, the Bioshock team worked with widescreen fine the first time. Design the game with widescreen in mind, then add data to the top and bottom for the few still gaming on 4:3 CRT's.

It's the same as the idiots that bitched and moaned about the Halo 3 resolution. In the end, it truly, honestly doesn't matter....and if nobody had pointed it out, you would've never been the wiser (not that it matters in the first place).

Breathe... breathe...

Regardless of any past arguments, the increased FOV sure looks purdy in the pics Queasy linked.

Wipe the shit from your eyes, pop a dvd into a widscreen hdtv and then select zoom mode on the tv. Once the movie is over then attempt to say nothing seemed odd while watching. Cause those with a clue realizes it does make a difference.

You both need to chill - but Blurredvision is right. The game was designed for 16:9 as it was, whether the FOV was wide enough for you is your opinion, but it certainly isnt and never was a bug or a dirty hack. The "limited" FOV was an artifact of the console version being more important than the PC version.

But if anything, it proves that enough bitching on the internet about even the most minor of things can accomplish something.

If you want to compare video games and movies, do it right. When a movie is filmed, the director normally frames his shots in widescreen - the area above and below (where the "black bars" are) are often filed with equipment like boom mics. But a lot of times, directors leave those areas clear of equipment so instead of making a pan & scan transfer for the full-screen home video, they can just use the full shot. So in full screen, you see more - but it's not the shot the director wanted you to see. It's not better, it's worse.

If they designed the game to be played on a widescreen display, and then just added in the junk on the top for the full screen folks, I see nothing wrong with that. Nobody else would have either if the game had only worked in widescreen to begin with. They've have been none the wiser. Certainly didn't bother me while I was playing the game. What they've done here is made the FOV wider than they originally intended to appease a bunch of whiny gamers. I think they should have stuck with whatever FOV they thought was appropriate in the first place.

We are not idiots, and you can do without the insults. The fact is, it is messed up, and needs to be fixed.

Once again, the fact is, it was messed up. Not only was WS screwed up, they forced 75 FOV on everyone. That just silly.

And I noticed it without anyone pointing it out. Its plainly obvious to those who are not ignorant on the matter. Such as yourself.

Except that the lead programmer was interviewed less than a month before it went gold. And he said, there would be more game in WS mode. Obviously someone screwed up, because there wasnt.

But I didnt play it on the 360, because its silly to play a FPS on a console to me, when you can play it on the PC. There was a 3rd party fix the next week, so it wasnt that big a deal in the long run.

So, if its a bug, why is it now an option instead of an outright fix?

Because thats how they meant it to be in the first place.

Its also not rocket science to add in an FOV option. Its built into the engine they used from the start. Its certainly no more difficult than cropping, probably even less so, since its nothing more than modifying a single variable - and again, the conclusion to draw from this?

Thats how they intended it in the first place! If they wanted you to be able to modify the fov, they'd have let you from the start.

I dunno what interview you speak of, since you havent linked it. From the way you paraphrased it, it could be interpreted in many different ways. This wouldnt be the first PC game thats suffered from having to deal with the limitations of fixed power consoles, and it wont be the last. In fact, its getting worse - the sniper rifles in COD4 being a prime example.

And they forced a lot of things on you in the game...like, well...the entire game! Everyone is going to differ as to what they believe the "proper" FOV is - they apparently believed it was 75 degrees horizontal.

Dont like it? Complain enough, and theyll give you the option to change it. Everyone wins. But dont be an idiot and call people ignorant when you're the ignorant one.

Sweet. The new stuff only costs 1 adam each. But it'll make the game so much easier ...
