Bioshock Audio Problems.

Intro plays with sound, after that, no sound whatsoever. For the past couple of hours, I've been trying almost everything to try and find a solution to this problem. I'm running on Vista 64 SP 1, most recent drivers/patch on my GPU and game. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling my Realtek '97 drivers; no luck. Running it as an admin with xp service pack 2, I proceed to go to the menu and try to change resolution to 1920x1600; game hangs, then crashes.

Funny thing is I ran the demo with XP service pack 2 with no problems.

EDIT: Another thing, this is the only game that I own with this problem.

Curious why you stick with the Realtek anyways......sound just isn't the same when compared to Creative's Audigy or X-Fi (both of which can be had for fairly cheap nowadays). I'm playing Bioshock right now and the sound from my X-Fi (headphones) really sets the mood much better than the onboard sound ever did.

Anyways.....are you running the 1.1 patch for Bioshock? The autopatcher which runs makes you think it installed the latest version, but it actually doesn't.

Yes, I'm running the latest patch. No luck.

Crappy coding/testing on the devs part.

It may be the game, at least to some extent. I got menu crashes, trying to change settings, with 1.0 but none since 1.1. X-fi really shines with this game, BTW.

It's the game, I too am experiencing sound-related issues in Bioshock. At times the sounds just stop, or sometimes only specific sounds will play and others will mute, sometimes it starts crackling, sometimes all works fine. And none of my other games give me any sounds issues whatsoever.

Sigh...I was really looking forward to this game.

For those with soundcards, where you experiencing sound issues pre-soundcard?

No sound problems with a 1st gen X-fi and none with the X-fi PCIE, yet. I never tried Bioshock with onboard sound.

I have onboard Realtek on my Neo2-FR and it sometimes starts up with no sound, but it's not often and usually stops after exiting and starting the game up again.
