I have a Asus A7V-VM motherboard from an HP PC. After the POST screen it says something about SMART finding a problem with my hard drive (30GB Quantum) and to press F1 to continue. After I press F1 the PC boots fine, but it's kinda annoying. The hard drive seems to be working fine and I haven't had any problems with it in the past.
If anyone is familiar with this board do you know how to disable S.M.A.R.T in the BIOS?
When I select the hard drive in the BIOS it shows S.M.A.R.T Enabled, but it won't let me select it to disable.

Also I was wondering if it would be possible to flash this board with a BIOS from Asus for the A7V133-VM? or would it not work because my board is from an HP PC.
If I have to use an HP BIOS does anyone know where I can get an update?
My current BIOS is a Phoenix 4.0 Release 6.0.K with the date 03/01/01.

thanks

Your hard drive is going bad.... The SMART warning is a feature. It might work, but something got detected going bad with the drive - perhaps the spin up isn't fast enough, or some other problem with the drive. As long as you don't care about your data, you're fine. You should migrate to a new drive.

Run the hdd manufs. utility to check the drive. Do NOT flash the BIOS with the one for the A7V133-VM from ASUS or you may very well end up with an ugly paperweight. Check with HP for an updated BIOS for the board.

I used Everest to look at the drive and under SMART it says something about reallocated sectors being out of range or something, so it looks like I may need a new drive.

thanks
