I have a P5LD2-VM rev 1.xx motherboard. I wanted to upgrade my BIOS from 0301 to a later version and used ASUS update, but it shows the following error message:

"The model of the BIOS image doesn't match the BIOS ROM currently present."

I've also tried using the 'afudos' utility but it too shows a similar message.

I have tried BIOS versions 0301 (surprizingly 0301 from ASUS website too shows the error message mentioned above which is my current BIOS), 0205, 0406,1401, etc

i assume you're using the windows utility to flash. DON'T. there have been problems with that utility killing boards.instead use ez-flash. load file on disk, either flooppy, CD or flashdrive. the instructions are in the manual and you will need to follow them.as the system boots, hit ALT-F2 to start the utility.

Definitely USE A FLOPPY DISK or to a lesser extent a USB. I killed my Asus Commando (RIP :() using that pathetic Asus update, many other users have had the same experience. So best do it the old fashion failsafe way :p.

Is it necessary to use a floppy disk cause I don't have one. Is there a risk in using a rewritable CD or DVD or flash drive?

Can you give me a link to the Ez-flash utility because my internet connection is not working and am on Dialup - It took a long time to open even this page. I'll get it downloaded from my dad's office.

yes, i have used CD/DVD, floppy or flash drive. worked like a charm.directions should be in the manual for your motherboard. only thing that need to be downloaded is the rom file. The utility is included in the bios. just reboot the computer, hit ALT/F2 at the same time and place disk in drive or plug in flash drive and follow the directions. some models require the file be renamed, such as my A8N sli deluxe while some don't, such as my A8N32 sli didn't.and neither does my current one M3A32 MVP Deluxe

- check on your cd if you can find the right bios file name , with Asus you should have to rename it, after it's put on the floppy or flash drive eg. P5LD2.ROM In caps no version number, Thats what works for me.
good luck

Thanks for the all the replies. I opened my cabinet and saw that my Motherboard was P5LD2-VM/SI not P5LD2-VM as reported by CPUZ. This motherboard is for System Integrators and to update the BIOS I will have to contact my system integrator. There is basically no difference between the two motherboards except the BIOS.

Hi,

I am having problem with updating my BIOS. Actually I am trying to downgrade my BIOS from BETA bios recently listed on ASUS website to one I already had. I am having issues with BETA Bios so I want to downgrade.

I dont have Floppy drive. I have to press DEL (delete) to get into BIOS setup screen. When I booted and went into BIOS settings, then selected EZ FLash 2 from one of them menus and started EZ Flash 2 app. However after getting into it, when I select C:\ folder (root folder of my primary hard drive) where I have copied .ROM file, it doesn't show anything in there. For some reason it wont read directory content. I even tried updating using my newest Sandisk 8GB Flash Drive and did same but it wont even recognize drive. It's not seen on left panel where list of drives are.

I also tried to use ASUS Update which allows updating in windows environment. I upgraded to BETA bios using ASUS Update but now it wont work for downgrade since it only allows Upgrade. As soon as I select older .ROM file it says, file is older than current version and it quits.

Please help me...
