Hi,

I have i5-760 overclocked to 3.6GHz (18x200). I was playing around in the bios abd set it to 4GHz (20x200) booted into Windows and did a bit of stress testing. Now I'm happy with 3.6GHz it more than enough for now so I just checking to see what I could achieve. I reset it back to 3.6GHz but now for some reason I can't enable Intel Speedstep to the throttle the CPU when I'm not playing games. I select the option in the BIOS screen. It brings up enable disable sub menu. I pickup enable and hit enter. Back in the bios screen it shows disables still. I original disabled it so I could see if I was truly hitting 4GHz. My motherboard is an Asus P7H55/USB3 BIOS is up-to-date.

Thanks
Haider

I don't know if someone else will be able to give you better advice, as I don't have this motherboard.

You could try removing the CMOS battery backup (for 15s, or a minute), then reconnecting it.
Better still, some motherboards, have a "Clear CMOS" push button, or a moveable link, to reset CMOS.
But it erases ALL your settings, so it is a pain.

As a rule of thumb, if you have re-flashed the bios, or wildly overclocked, or sometimes even a very bad PC crash, you may need to reset the CMOS. Your manual should explain how to do this, and for how long (e.g. 10 Sec).

If it was me, it would be the first thing I try, after the bios setting are misbehaving.

Failing the above, is the way you have created the Overclock in the Bios, disallowed the speedstep setting you want ?

Failing ALL the above, do you need a later (latest) flash bios update, because if your bios is very old, it may not properly support your cpu. (re-reading your post, you say your Bios is up to date, I left this comment in, incase someone else reads this, who may have an old bios).
