bios upgrade for cpu compatibility

Greetings,

I have a new machine underway, the mb is asus PRIME-A320M-K and the cpu os ryzen 5 2600 gen2.
from what I see in asus's site, the cpu is supported from a specific bios version.
incase the mb bios's version doesn't supports the cpu, how can I upgrade the bios?
will an old am4 cpu (kabini for example) will do the trick just for the upgrade?

Thanks.

You mean, Bristol Ridge, or Ryzen 1st-gen CPU, I hope.

Kabini is AM1 socket, not AM4. Not compatible, I'm afraid.

They are similar, both platforms utilize an SoC-type system, with native SATA ports on the APU itself. (And possibly some additional provided by the chipset, along with ethernet (or just PHY) on the mobo.

The 2600 CPU is electrically compatible on the board but only until BIOS 3803 has it been fully supported on the chipset. Local PC shop might be willing to loan a CPU and/or flash the board for you also. An easy 15 min job if they have the parts.

Counterpoint: if you have not yet purchased the A320 motherboard then stop. Don't buy it. You really aren't saving that much compared to getting one of the lower cost b450 boards. Check out this one for $65.

All b450 boards will work with all second generation Ryzen CPUs. No need to worry about what bios it come out of the box with and no jumping through hoops to make it work.

Just one persons opinion.

^ Agreed with above. B450/B350 should be cheap enough. I would not go with a A320.

One thing on that - I'd definitely go with the 450 not the 350 in this case. A 350 could have the same issue as the A320 i.e. its been in the channel a while and needs a bios update in order for a 2nd generation Ryzen to work.
