Do you guys think it's wise to update my bios on my motherboard as soon as i install it? Or is it one of those "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" type things?

I'm getting the Asus A8N nForce4 SLI mobo (standard - non deluxe). If anyone has gotten one of these recently, did you perform a bios update right away? If so, which version.

As far as for other people that have other types of boards, did you update your BIOS immediately or ran it for a while to see how it runs first? Just want to make sure I get max performance when I OC later.

Thanks again for all your help.

im not a advocate of unneccessary BIOS updates...but often when u get a board, it is shopped on a very early BIOS (unless u r getting an older board, nforce2, ect...)

i would update to the newest NON BETA BIOS....then not mess with it again unless u need to in order to support a new cpu purchase, ect....

my $.02

Before installing your OS or tweaking memory/cpu settings, I'd generally update the bios (but I usually work with 1-2 year old motherbords).

Also take a look at the bios bug fixes/update notes if they're available. If the bug fixes don't concern anything you'll be using, there's no need to update.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to update to the latest NON BETA Bios that Asus has to offer for the Asus A8N-SLI (non deluxe) mobo. It couldn't hurt. Right?

I'd do it since that mobo came out long before the Venices did IIRC.

I don't like flashing teh bios unless needed, but i will in cases where the mobo precedes the CPU, etc.

I would say your if it's not broken don't fix it is the best idea for the bios. Unless there is something in the update that corrects a problem you are having, I would leave it alone. Newer isn't always better, updates usualy seem to fix one problem, but create another one in it's place..

So very true my friend. However, It is my understanding that with these Asus A8N boards..they don't recognize the Venice core cpu's until bios ver 1005. So.......I'm hoping that when I get my new board tomorrow that it will have ATLEAST ver 1005 already on it. :) Would save me some headache.
