Bios update, no more HDD

So I just updated the bios on my d865PERL mobo and I was just wondering, is it supposed to not recognize hard drives? I was on my xp, and I downloaded the bios update from Intel.com and I'm positive that it was the correct one, and then I restarted and lo and behold it doesn't recognize my hard drives. It can see my cd rom drives but that's it. I am running off an ubuntu live cd at the moment and I was wondering how to get my hard drives to work again.
Thanks in advance.

Try going into bios/ set bios to Optimized settings, or just defaults. Save and exit.

After reboot, reset all your favorite parameters in bios, including auto detect drives. save/exit, should be good to go,well hopefully anyhow.

Sadly, there is no "auto detect drives" option. I have set it to optimized settings and that solved nothing. Thanks for trying though. I'll take anything I can get.

I have taken out the battery, and then I took out the jumper, then put the battery in but kept the jumper out and restarted. After it beeped at me fairly violently, I put the jumper back in and restarted again.

When you Clear CMOS, the Default position, is to Save settings. When you leave it off, you screw everything up.
Shut it down/ remove the cord from the back of the supply, put the jumper on the middle and pin to the right, or in other words, to the non default position for the board. Leave it like that for a full 5 minutes.

Then, put the jumper back to the default position, usually pins 1/2. Plug the cable back into the power supply. Then boot it up, and see what gives.

That did nothing. My hard drives still are not recognized unless I put them in my external usb casing.
