BIOS update failure...am I hosed?

I tried to update the BIOS on my Gigabyte KN8-SLI and it black screened after reboot.

Is this board hosed? It just has a black screen and clearing CMOS doesn't work.

So, bricked?

What worked on my Dell motherboard was to boot off a floppy drive and run a BIOS update tool from autoexec.bat.

You can try wiping the chip and reflashing. If that doesnt work, you need a new Bios chip. Bad Flash sells them pre flashed with whatever bios you want.

it looks like it has a 3 year warranty, when did you buy it? You can try calling gigabyte and see what they say. You might get lucky and they might help you out or replace it.

BIOS is soldered on.

you are probably screwed.

if it was socketed you could do a hot flash , but too bad. i guess if you were crazy or just really good with a soldering iron you could desolder the chip, hot flash it in a board with a socket, and then solder it back on..

A lazy individual such as myself would see this as an excellent upgrade opportunity 😀

But of course, troubleshoot before that.
