I have an Epox 8KHA+ and have tried various BIOS tweaks that I have seen here and in other discussion groups. They make absolutely no difference in Sandra benchmarks. Is that normal?

Don't worry about it, Sandra means squat in the scheme of things anyway ;) There are many ways to improve your scores in it but why bother.

Also remember BIOS tweaks can improve stability as well, especially with gaming so that`s another reason why BIOS tweaks are worth doing.

I see. But I wonder - how do people come up with those tweaks in the first place? There must be some scale to go by.

What kind of tweaks? Some may only add a few points; others are more significant. Enabling 4-way Interleave in my RAM resulted in a reported (by Sandra) increase of a few hundred more MB/sec of memory bandwidth. This can cost stability though, if your RAM modules aren't rated to do it.
