BIOS splash screen then black

I was asked to work on a toshiba satellite that shows an initial toshiba bios boot screen for a sec then goes black. I think its safe to say the screen is good and when i hook up an extra flat panel it works fine. Updated everything, used ESET NOD32 to scan for virus's reseated the ram and nothing. Trying not to take this laptop apart to check the connections on the monitor but will do so if necessary.
Has anyone had any kind of issues like this before? Any insight?

It sounds like the backlight or inverter in the LCD. I have seen lots of them perform like this ( on for an instant then go out ) before going out completely. If you go in you might as well replace both the backlight and inverter.

Thanks for your reply...damn why can't i get easy ones...so will be looking into replacing the inverter and backlight. never did one of those before but hey no time like the present...

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1805-S204. I have to take it apart approximately every 6 months and reseat the inverter. I just took it out and put it back in. Everything is working fine now. As far as taking it apart just Google Disassemble Toshiba laptops. Just two screws and the lcd cover comes off, then the inverter is a white plastic bar at the bottom. It is plugged in at both ends. Just unplug and replug the connectors. Then try the laptop. Hopefully, it will give you a great picture. Good luck.

I've done a few of them and it's not hard but be sure you match the correct inverter with the panel - meaning the inverter should match the panel manufacture - not just the laptop model. I think Toshiba is fairly straight forward and cost me about $15 for the last one, but I had an older Dell that required a certain inverter that was near impossible to find. I found some that would technically fit, but instead of taking a chance on doing it twice I picked up a new panel with matching inverter off EBy.

It looks like the one I replaced. Toshiba made it easy - one inverter fits many models. My Dell inverter was a pain to find due to the many different panel manufactures. I had to pull the panel, get the mfr number and go from there.
