Guys go easy on me this is my first posting. I am running W2k Pro, A7V133, and AMD Athlon 850 CPU.
I am having some stability problems and looking to disable as much as I can to release resources. I set the F5 default setting, then change the following: Disable Virus Program, Disable both Serial Ports, and set Graphics Aperture to 128mb. On boot up when the screen gets to Device Listing, I want to disable Network Controller and Simple Comm. Controller. Both are using IRQ 4. I am unable to find a connection to them in the bios. I am using Bios Version 1007. I just loaded the 4 in 1 Drivers. Can someone advise me on how to disable these two devices?
Thanks much... L Sanders Sr

Network Controller = Network card..If not using it, remove it.

Simple Comm. Controller= modem..Again, if not using it, remove it. You will not get rid of these in the bios. If you need different IRQ's try assigning each slot they are in their own IRQ. They should be able to share and play nicely though.

I don't know that you're going to really save any resources at all by disabling devices. Even if you did, it wouldn't be anything you would notice. As for the COM devices, you can't exactly disable those. Why would you disable the network controller? That's going to be something you have to do in your OS. What kind of stability problems are you having? Have you done updates for Win2K? Also, you might set your AGP aperature a bit lower. (half or equal to the memory of you video card)

If I were you I'd reset the bios and start over,

>I want to disable Network Controller and Simple Comm. Controller. Both are using IRQ 4.

so you installed a network controller but don't want to use it ???

as for your IRQ's it doesn't matter since your using win2k. then again I disabled both my comm ports and everything is fine. I wouldn't mess with the agp apperture, I think it supposed to be half of what your video cards memory is but could be wrong.
