BIOS settings keep resetting after power-off

Recently, my friends BIOS settings in his FP-IN9 reset everytime he shuts down his PC. The Motherboard was not flashed or updated in a long time, so that did not cause the issue.

By settings reset, I mean every setting, from OC down to the option to show the Abit splash screen.

Clear CMOS jumper possbily? I have suggested that he try a new battery but he said he doesn't think that is an issue (he might have tried that). Could it be anything else (other than something being corrupted)?

The Abit boards will sometimes give a post error code. Have you noticed any post codes or irregular beep codes? If the bios have never been flashed now would probably be a good time assuming the bios is stable enough, at least you'll be able to rule out corruption. The CMOS battery could be at fault as well, might want to consider that but generally they don't play out in a couple of years.

I don't believe there are any post codes/beep codes (I haven't seen the PC turned on though). As for the battery, I figured that as well since most that I have seen never had an issue after years of use. But for such an easy step, makes no sense not to try it.

I will suggest that he flashes the newest BIOS and see if that helps anything. That and see if it could be the clear BIOS jumpers (if applicable).

It sounds like the motherboard CMOS battery is dead. Only other possibility is that there is a reset switch / jumper which is being set (unlikely, but it's worth double checking the BIOS reset jumper and switch).
