when bios loads, it says cpu is at 200mhz. also once the windows setup copies files to the hard drive and reboots, it doesnt proceed. it takes me back to the windows install screen. im on an sata hd. also, it says its detecting raid even though ive only got one hd in there. . plz help

no jumpers in the hard drive. didnt even come with any. how do i make sure sata hd is enabled. if i go to windows setup repair, there is as bunch of windows files saved on my hd in the c:\windows directory.

Are you sure it's the CPU that's 200mhz and not the FSB?

Do you have the boot order set to HDD first before CD after windows installs?

the bios says the hard disk is before dvd drive in boot order.

the mobo jumpers are in the same position they came in. the installation didnt say to move them.

im using a64 3000+
gigabye ga-k8nf-9
seagate 200gb sata hd barracuda 7200.7

ram is being detected ok

help....

do i have to do something special with the sata drive ? how do i make sure it is being detected properly, in the bios' peripheral devices it is listed as enabled

So it installed windows alright? Did you need to use a floppy disk so windows could use the drive correclty? (I've never used a SATA drive so I'm not going to be a whole lot of help 😉)

it never asked for the second disk and also never left the text based interface. keeps bringing back up the first windows install screen....

somebody plz help me here with my windows/ hardware install

do you keep hitting a key when it says to after the text based part of the install? You should just let it do its thing after that don't hit any key

Ok, lets start with the CPU problem....

So when it starts up it doesn't say 3000+ anywhere, just that the CPU is 200mhz and you're sure it's not the ram or FSB it's telling you?

What does it say about the CPU when you enter the BIOS menu on startup?

When installing a SATA drive, you usually need to install a SATA driver from a floppy when you first start loading windows, it will say something like "press f6 to load 3rd party drivers"at the bottom of the blue setup screen. Your 200 mhz is most likely your FSB, my xp2500 shows 166 at stock settings, and 200 mhz OC'd during post. If you keeping restarting the windows loading process, that is strange unless you are hitting a key when it reboots right after the files are loaded. Your post screen usually says something like "press any key to start from cd", you should NOT be pressing any key, otherwise you WILL be starting all over again, kinda like a loop. Hope this helps some.

i see the part where it says press f6 to enter drivers for scsi / raid array, but when i press f6, it doesnt do anything (doesnt enter hd setup).

ribbon, i need your help big time .. nothing happens when i press f6. i dont have a floppy drive hooked up yet, but i thought f6 might only work if a floppy is hooked up

the computer boots up, shows the pci device list, will say : verifying DMI pool data..... then asks for the boot cd. i went thru the initial windows install once already, far enough to press f8 to agree to some agreement, said something like "copying files" for a while, was doing work. the system then rebooted, and asked for cd. i didnt press anything for a while and it didnt do anything, eventually i pressed a button and it returned me to the same screen.

the first time i was going thru, i made a 40gb partition NTFS with full format, then chose to install windows on that drive.... then after it copied a lot of files, the reboot and the same stuff

once it copies all the files pull out the cd, if i understand correctly you keep pushing a button when it asks you to so your creating a loop.

The reason your not booting into your HD is most likely because you dont have SATA drivers installed. Could be wrong. Lets start by first hooking up your Floppy. Make your driver floppy from the mobo CD. Go back and reinstall Windows (boot from CD). Hit F6, it won't give you any message until quite a bit later, when a screen loads up asking you if you want to specify additional scsi drivers, say YES (not "Continue") Load the drivers from the driver floppy and then continue windows installation from there. After it reboots, hit F8 and boot up directly from your HD. Then continue on with Windows.

Hope this helps and it works...

ok, make the floppy using the mobo cd... i will do this right now. i'll have to pull some parts to get the floppy disk in, be back in 5 min. thanks man, i have a feeling this could be the problem, at least a good one to troubleshoot first. brb

melchior, when i try to put the mobo cd in, it will say press a key to boot to cd. when i do, it says: ERROR: Hard Drive not installed press any key to restart.

What mobo is this again? You should not require a HD to boot from your mobo CD. Your mobo CD should be bootable and capable of making the driver disc, if not, try it on the PC your using.
