I'm not getting much if any help in the Motherboards forum, so I'm posting again in here . . . .

I'm not sure what exactly happend. I have an Epox 4G4A+, and it must be psychic or something and know that I was thinking of upgrading it.

I tried to flash to the newest BIOS to see if it supported HyperThreading. I used the Alt-F2 method rather than using a boot disk . . . probably my problem, I don't know. But something happened when the BIOS flash completed, and it rebooted, like it normally does.

Now, however, it gives me a "BIOS checksum error", then asks for a system disk. I stuck the disk with the BIOS .bin file into the drive, and it loads AWDFLASH, then tries to flash the BIOS.

After a moment I get the following error message:

"SST 49LF004A /3.3V

The program file's BIOS-string does not match your system!"

I did some searching on the 'net for this, and I found some mention of using a /nbl on the .exe, but I'm not sure exactly how to do this. I have minimal keyboard input. I've tried editing the .bat files included in the BIOS flash file, but to no avail.

I've tried multiple BIOS', including the one I had when I tried to flash it, and that doesn't work, either. Each BIOS file I try gives me the error.

I set the reset CMOS jumper, unplugged the power, and let it sit for half an hour - same problem.

Any ideas? I've got a chip puller, so I'd have no problem pulling the BIOS chip out if I had to, but obviously I'd like to be able to rectify the situation tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for any input.

If you overclocked your CPU and flashed your BIOS, then that is what screwed it up. I ended up RMAing the board for another one. You might try to get dr. DOS and load that up and see if you can boot load the /nbl command switch. if not you might have to get a new Bios or ram the bios.

CPU was not overclocked when I tried to flash the BIOS.

I've got a Dr. Dos boot disk, but the computer will not load it. It looks for a floppy with Awardflash on it and will nothing else until it gets the Awardflash program. That's when it tries to recover the BIOS automatically.

Is there any way I can force it to use the /nbl switch? I have no keyboard input whatsoever, I can't even get a command prompt.

I had the same problem on my 4g4a when trying to update to the latest bios. I don't remember how I solved the problem but I eventually did. All I can say is that it was a PITA. Which method did you use. I think I tried the alt f2 and boot disk method but neither worked. I believe I ended up using the awardflash utility and it worked fine. Don't know why the other's wouldn't.

Hmm, I wish you could remember how you fixed it. I guess I'll go ahead and take it out and put it back in the box so I can exchange it at Fry's tomorrow.
